Managing and healing pain naturally
Wendy Minderhout has been an acupuncturist in Maresme for many years and has practiced for more than 20 years. She studied Chinese acupuncture in the Netherlands and went on to earn a post graduate degree, specializing in Japanese acupuncture. She also graduated from the “Advanced Toyohari Acupuncture Training Program” in Amsterdam, and has studied with numerous Japanese masters in Japan and Europe. Wendy uses needles (inserted and non-inserted techniques) and moxibustion (Artemesia, also known as mugwort) to treat back pain, joint pain, headaches, anxiety, depression, heart palpitations, digestive issues, and chemotherapy-induced and postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting. These are all symptoms that the WHO (World Health Organization) declared in 2002 “for which acupuncture has been proved— through controlled trials—to be an effective treatment.” Wendy has also been successful with treating symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), insomnia, and hot flushes (especially relating to menopause). Based out of Cabrils, she is a member of the Toyohari Medical Association, an international group of acupuncturists with its head office in Tokyo. The Toyohari system focuses on gentle non-insertion needling techniques. She was honored in Tokyo in 2019 with a certificate of recognition for service to the Toyohari Medical Association. She is also a member of the Spanish Branch of the Toyohari Association.

“I believe in acupuncture” (or not), is a comment I hear pretty often. I enjoy explaining that acupuncture is not a religion. It is a method of maintaining health, decreasing pain and cultivating a balanced mind and body that’s been developed over two centuries. The internet has been instrumental with demystifying acupuncture; more than 8000 scientific studies are easily accessible online which describe in scientific terms that acupuncture is effective. Every individual body is a puzzle. Solving the puzzle to help each person get in touch with their natural healing power is an honor. It’s wonderful when a patient messages me that they are feeling better than they have in a long time.
