Holistic Veterinary Medicine for your pets
Dr. Britta Gwalani is an experienced integrative vet in Maresme specialising in holistic treatments alongside traditional medicine, to enhance the health and wellbeing of small animals in Maresme and Barcelona. She offers custom treatments in acupuncture, moxibustion, chiropractic care, nutrition and tailor made vaccinations.
Dr. Britta believes that veterinary care should focus on treating the root causes of health issues rather than just the symptoms. Combining traditional veterinary practices with holistic therapies means she provides her patients with the best of both worlds.
Dr. Britta moved to Maresme in 2002, where she studied for a postgraduate degree in vet ophthalmology, having graduated from the Free University of Berlin in 2000. She then co-owned and managed a thriving veterinary clinic in Alella for 14 years, honing her skills in small animal surgery, internal medicine and ultrasound.
Strongly believing in a more holistic approach to veterinary medicine, Dr. Britta chose to pursue her passion for integrative care, training in veterinary acupuncture, Japanese Moxibustion and Food Therapy based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is currently working toward becoming an accredited animal chiropractor with the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic (IAVC), set to qualify in March 2025.
As an integrative vet, Dr. Britta tailors treatments to each animal’s needs, building a comprehensive and effective care plan, in tandem with their primary care vet. The treatments that she offers address a wide range of issues in small animals, such as pain, weakness, dermatitis, itching, arthritis, obesity, insomnia, diarrhea, lack of appetite, vomiting, kidney and liver problems, asthma, cough, weakness, rehabilitation, sport dogs, osteoarthritis, epilepsy, chronic degenerative diseases, epilepsy, dysplasia, preventive medicine, customised nutrition, chiropractic care, puppies, spondylosis, as well as anxiety.
Dr. Britta also offers titer testing and custom vaccinations. Antibody titers are simple blood tests that help determine which specific vaccines your pet truly needs. Vaccinations are vital to protect your pet from various diseases, some of which can be fatal. For years, animals have been vaccinated according to standardised guidelines. However, recent research shows that not every animal requires vaccinations on the same schedule.
Often, the immunity provided by vaccines lasts much longer than previously thought. Puppies may also need fewer vaccinations as they inherit protective antibodies from their mothers. Administering vaccines to pets that already have sufficient immunity offers no benefit and may even lead to unwanted side effects.
It is crucial to assess your pet’s specific needs. To make her services as accessible as possible, Dr. Britta offers home visits.
I am immensely passionate about helping animals to live healthier, happier lives for years to come.
