Highly recommended for a wide selection of tapas and main dishes, especially the seafood, Acamar is also a great place to relax and enjoy live music. They’ve got a plethora of deckchairs and loungers just in front of the chiringuito facing the sea, ideal for people-watching whilst sipping a cool beer before lunch or dinner! One of the prettiest and quirkiest chiringuitos in Maresme, this ‘beach lounge’ beside the sea has a great ambience and a broad menu including excellent veggie options and ‘poke bowls’. Particularly delicious are the ‘dados’ of tuna and steak. Take away available. It gets very busy at weekends, but is ideal for a Sunday aperitivo.

Run by two brothers, this large chiringuito has tables both inside and on the beach, all with lovely views. It is renowned for its paellas, rice dishes, tatakis and fish, all beautifully presented. For dessert the ‘Granizado de Mojito’ is a must! Vaivé is an ideal setting for lunch or evening drinks and often has live music. Situated slap bang in front of Cabrera de Mar station.

This hugely popular restaurant situated on the sand is renowned for its lobster and langoustine, caught fresh every day. Open all year round, this local gastronomic haunt opens for breakfast and closes in the early hours, and often has live music, all with the mesmerising backdrop of the Mediterranean. More than a gastronomic chiringuito, the popular La Rotonda beach bar overlooks one of the best surf spots on the coast and has great views of the Barcelona skyline. For those who fancy a surf or Stand Up Paddle, nearby Maresme Waves can sort you out with whatever material you need. Easy to get to from El Masnou station.

One of the youngest chiringuitos, La Xankla started in 2015, with (it claims) ‘an indomitable character where anything can happen’. More than 50 different cocktails are on offer just 20 metres from the water’s edge. A short walk from Ocata train station.

Set on the beach on the northern tip of the port of Arenys, La Perla offers great seafood including scampi, squid, sardines and mussels, all freshly caught and delivered from Arenys Port. There’s a good choice of pizzas for the kids too. There’s always a real buzzing vibe and good service in the midst of happy beachgoers.

This popular chiringuito right in the heart of the sandy beachfront of Sant Vicenç de Montalt suits all appetites, although it is one of the more expensive along the beachfront. There are plenty of ‘pica pica’ options as well as steaks and fresh whole fish and seafood.

Montgat’s three beaches are Meccas for surfers of all kinds, and this chiringuito on the site of the old baths adds appeal for less energetic visitors looking for good food in a picturesque setting. A short and charming walk via former fishermen’s houses from Montgat Nord station.
