Premià de Dalt has a fascinating history dating back to ancient Roman times and is even thought to be named after a Roman village, Vila Primilia. Throughout history Premià de Dalt remained a predominantly agricultural community, with an economy based on wine-making, cultivating olives and growing wheat.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, the village evolved with the construction of impressive new homes and estates for wealthy Barcelona families. During this time, Premià de Dalt became a summer resort for the upper classes seeking tranquillity and fresh air away from the city
Today, Premià de Dalt’s economy is more diversified. Tourism and real estate have grown in tandem with the town’s popularity, although agriculture, particularly wine production, still plays an essential role. Many professionals working in Barcelona now choose to live in Premià de Dalt, drawn by its tranquil pace of life and convenient proximity to both the coast and the city.
