Cavalcada de los Reyes Magos
The Cavalcada de los Reyes Magos (Three Kings Parade) is one of Spain’s most cherished and magical Christmas traditions. Almost every town and village in Maresme will host their own parade. Held on the evening of January 5th, the parade marks the arrival of the Three Wise Men—Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar—bringing gifts to children, much like Santa Claus in other cultures. During the parade, the Kings and their entourage ride elaborately decorated floats through the streets, scattering sweets to crowds. The event features music, dancing, theatrical performances, and colourful costumes, creating an enchanting spectacle for families. Each city and town celebrates in its own unique way, with Barcelona hosting one of the grandest parades, complete with dazzling lights and intricate choreography. In some areas, the Kings arrive by boat, horse, or even helicopter, adding a local flair to the festivities. The Cavalcada culminates with children leaving out shoes for the Kings to fill with gifts and treats overnight, continuing a tradition that embodies the joy and wonder of the holiday season in Spain.
