A truly natural experience
The family-run winery in Maresme, Alta Alella, owned by the Pujols-Busquets family, is nestled in the foothills of the Serrelada Natural Park. A range of excellent tours are available which are given on foot or in a 4-wheel vehicle among the vineyards, offering spectacular views of Barcelona. All tours finish with a tasting of wines and cavas with unforgettable views over the vineyards. Since its inception, the winery has been based on certified organic farming, creating a well-balanced ecosystem that respects the native flora and fauna of this privileged agricultural area. Its organic and natural wines and cava are present on the wine lists at some of the most prestigious restaurants all over the world.
Alta Alella produces around 300,000 bottles a year, two-thirds cava and the rest still wines, and around 40% is exported. There are 17 hectares of vines planted on characteristic soils locally called sauló. The decomposed granite, without lime or organic matter, helps to give acidity to the wines. Local grapes Pansa Blanca (Xarel.lo) and Mataró (Monastrell or Mourvèdre) are used in their wines and cavas. Other grapes grown are Macabeo, Parellada, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay (white) and Syrah, Petit Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha (red).
Besides its high quality hallmark, inherent in every product, Alta Alella has also developed as a cellar open to the public. As a result, the winery has created a unique and personalised wine environment where quiet walks, wine and food pairings, enogastronomic activities with private chefs, yoga classes in the vineyards and helicopter flights over the estate and the surroundings are all possible. Alta Alella’s Wine Tourism Centre is also an ideal setting to celebrate exclusive events, incentives or seminars. Its wines can be sampled in some of the world’s leading restaurants including the Michelin-starred Fat Duck in Bray, UK.
